Vakils 80 years

Dear Team, Partners, Clients & Stakeholders,

Eighty years. A remarkable milestone. But what moves us most is not the number itself, but everything those years hold.

Initially bought by our grandfather, Vakils was nurtured by our grand uncles, our father and his cousins, and handed to us not simply as a business to manage, but as something closer to a living trust—a responsibility to the people who work here, to the clients who have believed in us across generations, and to all of you who have placed your faith, your energy and your years in this company.

When we look back at eight decades, what stands out most is not the awards or the milestones, but the spirit that has carried Vakils through every transformation. From hot metal to phototypesetting, offset and digital printing, and ultimately to becoming a global IT/ITES company operating across 35 countries, each shift demanded that we learn, unlearn and learn again.

There were exciting times, difficult times and moments when things felt deeply uncertain. But we survived and emerged stronger because we were willing to change when change was necessary. And yet, the discipline that made us a great printer is the same discipline that makes us a trusted technology partner today.

Through it all, certain things have remained constant: a commitment to quality, loyalty to our people, respect for our clients, and the belief that how we do our work matters as much as what we do. These values were not handed down to us as policies. They were shown to us, through practice, by the generations before us.

The spirit of enterprise has also found expression in newer ventures. Kahani Tree, which began as a small shelf of children’s books, has grown into a much-loved independent children’s bookstore, nurturing young readers and bringing the joy of books to children, schools and families across the country.

As we look ahead, we know the world will continue to change quickly. We have learnt, however, that speed by itself is not progress. What matters is remaining relevant, staying close to our clients and our people, and continuing to make thoughtful choices.

Most of all, we want to thank you for your commitment, dependability and resilience. Vakils has endured and evolved for eighty years because of its people, and all of you are now part of our story.

We feel deeply grateful to have inherited this legacy—and equally grateful to be entrusted with carrying it forward.

Here’s to the next chapter, and to all of us who will write it together.

With warm regards,

Bimal Mehta
